How Astrology Gives Insight on Your Life Through Houses

People often wonder how the birth chart can give so much insight on a person’s personality and their life. One of the ways it does this is through the use of ‘houses’. A house is a constellation from one of the three rising signs we discussed last time. So if looking from the Libra Ascendant, Libra becomes the first house, the next sign Scorpio becomes the second house, on son on. If the sun sign is Gemini, Gemini becomes the first house from the sun, the next sign Cancer is the second house, and so on. The same for the moon sign.

Each house rules a different area of life. Here is a simplified list of house meanings:

1^st: Personality, Ego, Body

2^nd: Money, Family, Food

3^rd: Communication, Sibling, Music

4^th: Mother, Security, Home

5^th: Children, Creativity, Education

6^th: Health, Employment, Obstacles

7^th: Marriage, Clients, Contracts

8^th: Transformation, Unearned Income, Yoga

9^th: Father, Teacher, Dharma

10^th:  Career, Reputation, Authority

11^th: Friends, Community, Achievement

12^th: Spirituality, Meditation, Loss

The way insight is gained on any of these areas of life is to see what planet is in the house (its qualities affect the meaning), what planets are aspecting it (casting a glance), where the planet is that rules that house and what planets are aspecting it, and then inferring meaning by putting these things together.
